Toys For Bob Is Ditching Activision-Blizzard And Going Independent

Toys For Bob, best known for its work on projects like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, has announced that it would be departing from Activision’s repertoire of studios. The news was announced today through a developer blog post on Toys For Bob’s website.

“With the same enthusiasm and passion, we believe that now is the time to take the studio and our future games to the next level. This opportunity allows us to return to our roots of being a small and nimble studio.” – Paul Yan & Avery Lotado via Toys For Bob blog post

This is a great outcome for the studio as, previously, Toys For Bob looked like it was being absorbed into the avarcious development consumption machine known as Call of Duty: Warzone, with the studio’s future looking bleak as a support studio. This news also comes not long after it was revealed that Microsoft, the owners of Activision-Blizzard, had intended to close Toys For Bob’s office – a development that was misconstrued as the closure of the studio itself.

Reading through the blog post itself, the studio is apparently in talks about some kind of partnership between itself and Microsoft. There are no further announcements regarding future projects, with the studio stating that it is “in the early days of developing our next new game and a ways away from making any announcements, our team is excited to develop new stories, new characters, and new gameplay experiences”.
