Life Is Strange: True Colors Developer Deck Nine Games Is Laying Off 20% Of Its Staff

The day’s news was already pretty sombre with the announcement that Sony would be laying off 900 employees from its video game division, and the sad news continues. Adding to the large amount of industry layoffs that have already occurred in 2024, it was announced that Deck Nine Games would be experiencing its own layoffs.

Best known for its work on Life is Strange: Before the Storm and Life is Strange: True Colors, Deck Nine Games took to Twitter to announce that it would be laying off 20% of its staff, stating “Deck Nine has been affected by the game industry’s worsening market conditions”.

What is notable about these layoffs, however, is the fact that leadership actually took a financial hit in an effort to minimise the amount of layoffs in total. This news was stated by Stephan Frost, the Game Director at Deck Nine.
