Destiny 2: The Final Shape Is Bringing A New Hybrid Subclass

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is just under two months away and Bungie is in full marketing swing for it.  The game’s interim content update, Into the Light, shipped this morning and is aiming to tide people over until this year’s expansion.  Regardless, there was a gameplay preview this morning that showed off some more details regarding The Final Shape, most notably the new Prismatic Subclass.

The Prismatic Subclass is a new reveal that comes in addition to the new supers that were shown off earlier for The Final Shapre. This new subclass will be available to all three classes and offers an unprecedented amount of flexibility to the player, affording the ability to combine multiple element types for the player to use. Each class will be granted a unique hybrid grenade that combines two elements. Warlocks’ grenade is a combination of Stasis and Void, Titans’ combines Strand and Arc, and lastly, Hunters have a combination of Solar and Stasis.

Also being a first for Destiny 2, each class will be able to equip an exotic class item which will feature a proper exotic perk, unlike the exotic class items in Destiny: The Taken King whose exotic perks were faster subclass levelling for that expansion’s subclasses and the ability to equip it at the same time as normal exotic armour. It was revealed that these exotic perks are to be randomised and will take two features from existing Exotic armour pieces (including from other classes), allowing for even more mix and match gameplay.

Destiny 2: The Final Shape is the sixth major expansion for Destiny 2 and is set to close out the current story arc of Destiny which started all the way back in 2014 with the release of Destiny. The expansion is slated to release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Game Store on June 5, 2024.
