The ASUS ROG Ally has proven to be a successful competitor to the popular Steam Deck. It reportedly sold a little over five hundred thousand units, with a revenue of approximately US$318.6 million, in its first month. However, it seemed that the device itself was plagued with issues, ranging from stick drift to the SD card slot burning out. More recenetly, the device was mired in controversy due to being the subject of terrible RMA practices (notably in USA) by ASUS which was reported by Gamers Nexus.
This has not stopped ASUS from endeavouring to improve its products, and thus we have the ASUS ROG Ally X, the second iteration of ASUS’ PC gaming handheld. Pre-orders are now live for this device in both Australia and New Zealand. It boasts a number of improvements but notably does not bolster any hardware improvements that will provide better performance in games. This improvements include:
- Increased storage capacity
- Faster memory
- Longer battery life
- Improved joysticks and ergonomics
- An additional USB-C port
- Improved thermals
