It was announced this morning that the IP crossover platform fighter, MultiVersus, would be launching on May 28, 2024. The game was originally announced in November 2021, with an open beta/early access period of the game running for a little under a year from July 2022 to June 2023. The game was subsequently pulled down and has since been moved to Epic Games’ powerful Unreal Engine 5, and supports developer Player First Games’ new netcode.
Player First Games took to YouTube to bring this news to the masses, with Game Director Tony Huynh taking centre stage. Huynh talks about how the beta period of the game was incredibly informative, and that PFG took the feedback to heart, going back to the drawing board to deliver something that players would love as much as the developers.
“We rebuilt the game, from the ground up, to support our new netcode to provide consisent, world-class online play so every hit, dodge, and Batarang will be delivered with pin-point accuracy.” – Tony Huynh, MultiVersus Game Director
On top of the general improvements that PFG has been working on, Huynh also reveals that there is a new PVE mode. This PVE mode is built around playing the game in different ways and earning unique rewards for doing so.
MultiVersus will be free-to-play for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store. The game will also feature full cross-play and cross-progression support.
